Integrated Reiki & Somatic Care: A Gentle Nervous System Reset for Mind & Body

If you’ve ever said, “I know I’m stressed…but I can’t seem to calm down,” you’re not alone.

So many people are doing all the “right” things – trying to rest, trying to think positively, trying to push through – while their body stays tense, wired, heavy, or shut down. That’s not a personal failure. It’s often a nervous system that’s been in overdrive for too long.

At Nurturing Roots Wellness in Midland, we offer Integrated Reiki & Somatic Care as a gentle, supportive way to help your body come back toward balance. It’s not talk therapy, and it’s not a massage. It’s a calming, body-based session designed to help you feel more grounded, regulated, and connected to yourself.

First: what is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice where a practitioner places their hands on or just above the body to support relaxation and a sense of energetic balance.

You don’t need to “believe” anything for it to be helpful. You don’t need experience. You don’t need to arrive calm.

Many people experience Reiki as a deep exhale – like their body finally gets permission to soften.

What does “somatic” mean?

Somatic simply means body-based.

Somatic support helps you tune into what your body is noticing – your breath, tension, temperature, sensations, impulses to move, or places that feel guarded. It’s a way of listening to your nervous system without forcing anything to happen.

In our sessions, somatic care may include gentle guidance like:

🌱 Grounding and orientation (helping your system feel safe in the room)

🌱 Breath support (slow, regulating breath – not intense breathwork)

🌱 Body-based noticing (“Where do you feel that in your body?”)

🌱 Simple regulation tools you can take with you

🌱 Permission to move, stretch, or adjust if your body wants that

It’s always invitational. You’re in charge of your pacing.

Why we combine Reiki & somatic support

Reiki can help your system settle. Somatic support helps you stay connected to what’s happening inside you – so the calm isn’t just something you feel for an hour, but something your body can begin to learn.

What happens in a session (step-by-step)

While each practitioner has their own style, an Integrated Reiki + Somatic session generally looks like this:

Arrival & a gentle check-in – We’ll start with a brief conversation about what you’re noticing lately—stress, sleep, tension, emotional heaviness, burnout, pain, or simply feeling disconnected. You can also name what you’re hoping for (even if it’s as simple as “I want to feel quieter inside”).

Getting comfortable – You’ll lie down fully clothed on a treatment table in a calm, cozy space. We’ll help you settle with blankets, pillows, and anything else that supports comfort.

Reiki & somatic support – Your practitioner will offer Reiki with hands on or just above the body. Along the way, they may gently guide you to notice your breath, feel your body supported by the table, or track sensations as they shift. There’s no pressure to talk. Some people chat a little, some are quiet the whole time.

Closing & integration – At the end, we’ll give you time to reorient and come back slowly. If it feels helpful, we may offer a simple grounding practice to support you after you leave.

Everyone’s experience is different, but common experiences include:

🌱 A deep sense of relaxation (sometimes the deepest you’ve felt in a long time)

🌱 Warmth, tingling, heaviness, or gentle energy movement

🌱 A quieter mind and softer body
