All the information you may be wondering about.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Whether we’re meeting for therapy, walk-and-talk therapy, coaching, osteopathy, Reiki, or Therapeutic Embodiment, your first appointment is all about getting to know you.
We’ll take time to explore what brought you here, understand your personal history, and clarify your goals and hopes for our work together. At Nurturing Roots, we look beyond symptoms — we seek to understand the whole of who you are and the unique story that shapes you.
This first session is about building trust, creating a sense of safety, and laying the groundwork for meaningful growth and change.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes — many of our therapy and coaching services can be offered virtually for clients anywhere in Ontario. Reiki is also available virtually across Canada. Osteopathy is offered in-person only at our Midland location.
What to Expect When You Book Your Initial Appointment?
We’re so glad you’ve chosen to begin your journey with Nurturing Roots. Your first appointment is all about getting to know you — your story, your goals, and the kind of support that will feel most helpful right now.
Before your session, we’ll send you a welcome email along with a short intake form. This gives us a deeper understanding of your needs and helps us make the most of our time together.
When you arrive (either in person or virtually), we’ll start by creating a comfortable, safe space where you can share openly. From there, we’ll explore what’s brought you here, begin shaping a plan for your care, and ensure you feel grounded and confident about next steps.
This first appointment is the foundation for our work together — a chance to slow down, connect, and set you on a path toward meaningful growth and well-being.
What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that life happens and schedules can change. We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
- Your first late cancellation will be charged at 50% of the session fee.
- No-shows are charged the full session fee.
- Any future late cancellations after the first will also be charged at the full session fee.
This policy helps us honour the time of our practitioners and ensures availability for other clients who may be waiting for an appointment.
What is the process to book?
You can book with us in two ways:
- Schedule a discovery call – A short, complimentary call to connect, share what you’re looking for, and explore which of our four wellness pillars (Relief & Reset, Root to Rise, Sustain & Flourish, or Signature Growth) — and which service — will best support you.
- Book an appointment directly – If you already know what you’d like, you can reserve your session online right away.
We encourage starting with a discovery call so we can ensure a good fit and help you choose the type of care that feels right for you.
Where are you located?
We’re located in Midland, Ontario, with free parking available behind the building off Bourgeois Lane. You can park directly behind our building or in the municipal lot. Look for the
Nurturing Roots signage, then come inside, remove your shoes, and settle into our waiting area with a tea, coffee, or water.
When you arrive, come inside and take a seat in our welcoming waiting area. You’re invited to enjoy water, tea, or coffee while you wait, and we ask that you remove your shoes so you can settle in comfortably before your session.

What can osteopathy help with?
At Nurturing Roots, our approach to osteopathy is simple: we treat people, not just conditions. We take time to understand your full health story, explore how your symptoms may be connected, and assess your body for areas of tension or restriction in soft tissues, joints, bones, and organs.
From there, we create a treatment plan that focuses on restoring mobility where it’s limited, so your body can do the work it’s meant to do. As movement and function improve, many people notice not just physical relief, but a greater sense of ease and balance in their whole body.
People come to us for many reasons, including:
- Acute or chronic pain
- Headaches and migraines
- TMJ (jaw) concerns
- Sinus congestion or sinusitis
- Digestive discomfort
- Muscle tension or spasms
- Neck, back, and shoulder tightness or soreness
- Low back, hip, and leg pain and/or numbness
- Neck, shoulder, and arm pain and/or numbness
Osteopathy can also be a supportive choice for overall wellness, prevention, and nervous system balance. You don’t have to be in pain to benefit.
Is osteopathy safe?
Yes. Osteopathy is safe and suitable for people of all ages, from infants to older adults. Our osteopath tailors each session to your comfort level and needs.
How often do I need to come for osteopathic treatment?
The frequency of osteopathic care is unique to each person and depends on your goals, your body’s needs, and the nature of what you’re experiencing.
Some people with a preventive, health-promotion mindset choose to come regularly, weekly, monthly, or seasonally, to keep their body moving well and their nervous system in balance. Others book sessions when a specific concern arises, like back or neck pain, and come less frequently once the issue has settled.
Because your body needs time to integrate the effects of treatment, we typically recommend no more than one session per week. As you improve, visits often become less frequent, perhaps once a month, every other month, or just a few times a year. These periodic check-ins can help reduce flare-ups of pain and tension, and keep your body functioning at its best.
You don’t need to be in pain to benefit from osteopathy. Gentle hands-on treatment can improve circulation, release tension, support your nervous system, and help you feel more balanced and at ease in your body.
What should I wear to my osteopath appointment?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. You will remain clothed during your session, but your osteopath may ask you to remove bulky items like sweaters or belts.
Will my insurance cover osteopathy?
Yes, our osteopath is registered with the ACMA, which is recognized by all major insurance providers. At this time, Canada Life coverage is being finalized, and we’re actively working toward full recognition.
We don’t bill insurance companies directly, but we’ll provide a detailed receipt for you to submit to your provider for reimbursement. If you’re unsure about your coverage, we recommend checking with your insurance company before your first session so there are no surprises.
What are the benefits of osteopathy?
Osteopathy gently supports your body’s natural ability to heal and function at its best. Through hands-on techniques, it helps release tension, restore mobility, and bring balance to your whole system, body, mind, and nervous system.
Many people notice:
- Relief from pain, stiffness, or discomfort
- Improved posture and ease of movement
- Reduced muscle tension and joint strain
- Better circulation and lymphatic flow
- Support for digestion, breathing, and overall vitality
- Greater nervous system regulation and resilience to stress
- A deeper sense of ease and connection in their body
Osteopathy can be both restorative when you’re experiencing discomfort and preventive to keep your body feeling balanced and well.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
Each person’s Reiki experience is unique, but most describe a deep sense of relaxation and ease that begins to flow through them almost immediately. Many feel a gentle, glowing warmth or light that seems to surround and soothe the whole body.
As the Reiki energy works, you may find yourself letting go of tension, worry, or heavy emotions, and sinking into a state of calm, peace, and safety. Some people drift into a light sleep, feel as though they are floating, or experience imagery, insights, or moments of deep clarity.
By the end of your session, it’s common to feel refreshed, lighter, and more balanced, with a renewed sense of connection to yourself and the world around you.
How is therapeutic embodiment different from talk therapy?
Do I need to be “fit” or experienced in movement to participate in therapeutic embodiment?
What can Therapeutic Embodiment help with?
What should I wear to my Therapeutic Embodiment session?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, such as leggings, sweatpants, or loose-fitting attire. You’ll be barefoot or in socks during the session.
How is a Reiki treatment given?
During a Reiki session, gentle healing energy flows from the practitioner’s hands into your body to support balance, relaxation, and well-being. You’ll usually be lying comfortably on a massage table, but Reiki can also be given while you’re seated if that feels better for you.
The practitioner will place their hands lightly on or just above your body in a series of positions — often around the head, shoulders, stomach, and feet. Additional positions may be used depending on your unique needs. Each position is held for several minutes, allowing the energy to flow where it’s needed most.
At Nurturing Roots, Reiki sessions range from 75 to 120 minutes, giving you the space to slow down, receive, and integrate the experience fully. Some sessions include additional elements like oracle cards and intuitive messages for deeper insight and connection.

What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
Therapy and coaching are both powerful supports, but they meet you in slightly different places on your journey.
Therapy often focuses on the past and present, helping you understand the roots of your challenges, process difficult or traumatic experiences, and learn ways to calm and regulate your nervous system. It’s a space for healing, insight, and reclaiming your sense of self.
Coaching is more focused on the present and future. Together, we explore the different areas of your life that need attention, create an action plan, and walk alongside you with encouragement and accountability as you work toward your goals. It’s about momentum, clarity, and stepping into what’s next.
At Nurturing Roots, both approaches honour your whole self, and sometimes, they work beautifully together.
What types of therapy do you offer?
We offer individual therapy, walk-and-talk therapy, children’s therapy, and specialized approaches such as EMDR, somatic therapy, and trauma-informed care. Each session is tailored to your needs, blending evidence-based techniques with a compassionate, whole-person approach.
Who are the clients we support?
At Nurturing Roots, we welcome individuals across all stages of life who are seeking a compassionate, whole-person approach to wellness. Our clients come to us for many reasons, from navigating stress, anxiety, or burnout to healing from trauma, easing physical pain, or rediscovering their sense of self.
We support:
- Adults seeking therapy, coaching, or integrative care
- Children and teens needing emotional, behavioural, or developmental support
- Parents navigating the challenges and joys of raising children
- Individuals recovering from or managing physical discomfort through osteopathy or embodiment work
- Those on a journey of self-discovery, growth, and nervous system regulation
- People looking to integrate mind, body, and soul healing in one safe, supportive space
Whether you’re taking your very first step toward support or continuing a journey you’ve already started, we meet you exactly where you are, with warmth, curiosity, and care.
What do EMDR Intensives look like and how long are they?
EMDR Intensives are extended therapy sessions, usually 2 to 4 hours, that allow for deeper, focused processing in one sitting. They include preparation, EMDR processing at your pace, and integration time so you leave feeling grounded. This format can be especially helpful for addressing specific concerns, processing trauma, or reducing the impact of long-standing triggers more efficiently.
What is Walk-and-Talk Therapy?
Walk-and-Talk Therapy is a form of counselling that takes place outdoors, combining the benefits of movement, fresh air, and nature with the support of a therapy session. Instead of sitting in an office, we walk side-by-side at a pace that feels comfortable for you while exploring your thoughts, feelings, and goals.
Many clients find that walking in nature helps them feel more at ease, encourages openness, and supports nervous system regulation. It can be especially helpful if you feel restless in traditional therapy settings, want to integrate more movement into your self-care, or simply enjoy connecting with the outdoors.
Sessions run the same length as regular therapy appointments and are available year-round, weather permitting.
What to Expect at Your First Walk-and-Talk Therapy Session
Your first walk-and-talk session is much like a traditional therapy appointment, the focus is still on you, your goals, and what you’d like support with. The difference is that we’ll be moving through nature together, letting the rhythm of walking and the calming effects of the outdoors help guide the conversation.
Here’s how to prepare:
- Dress for the weather – Wear comfortable layers and walking shoes or boots. In cooler months, bring gloves, hats, or extra warmth.
- Bring water – Staying hydrated will help you feel your best during our time together.
- Meet at the starting point – We’ll share the exact location in your confirmation email, along with parking details.
- Weather plan – We walk in most conditions, but if the weather is unsafe or severe, your session will be moved indoors or shifted to a virtual format.
What you can expect during the session:
- A gentle pace that’s comfortable for you, no fitness goals here.
- Opportunities to pause if you’d like to sit and reflect.
- The same privacy, safety, and care as an in-office session, just in a natural setting.
Many clients find that the combination of movement, fresh air, and therapeutic conversation helps them feel more open, grounded, and clear by the end of the session.
Is therapy covered by my benefits?
Our team includes Registered Social Workers and CRPO-Registered Psychotherapists, and sessions with them are typically covered by most extended healthcare benefit plans.
We do not bill insurance companies directly, but we provide detailed receipts by email upon payment, so you can easily submit them to your provider for reimbursement.
If you’re unsure about your coverage, we encourage you to check with your insurance company before your first session, we’re happy to guide you through what to ask so you feel confident moving forward.
What should I expect for my child’s therapy sessions?
When a child begins therapy at Nurturing Roots, our first priority is to create a safe, welcoming space where they can feel at ease. The first few sessions are focused on building trust and getting to know your child’s unique personality, strengths, and needs.
We use developmentally appropriate approaches, such as play, creative expression, movement, or talking, to help your child share their experiences in a way that feels natural to them. Along the way, we’ll explore what’s been challenging, support them in learning regulation tools, and help them build confidence in navigating their emotions and relationships.
Parents are an important part of the process. You can expect regular check-ins to share insights, celebrate progress, and learn ways to support your child’s growth at home.
