How we do therapy

Therapy and Wellness Icon

At Nurturing Roots, we believe meaningful healing begins with the nervous system. When your body experiences a sense of safety, your thoughts, emotions, and patterns have the space to shift more naturally. Our approach is grounded in nervous-system-informed care and the principles of Polyvagal Theory, helping you understand your body’s responses to stress and gently work with them, rather than feeling at odds with them.

We integrate evidence-based practices such as EMDR for trauma processing, somatic therapy to support the release of stored tension, and CBT/DBT-informed approaches to build supportive, real-life coping skills. Breathwork, mindfulness, and nature-based options like walk-and-talk therapy invite a sense of grounding, presence, and reconnection.

By thoughtfully weaving these approaches together, we support healing that reaches beyond surface-level coping, creating space for lasting change, deeper self-understanding, and a more steady, connected way of moving through your life.

Therapy That Meets You Where You Are and Grows With You

Therapy at Nurturing Roots is a space where you can exhale, feel understood, and begin to soften out of the patterns you’ve had to hold for so long. Here, you don’t have to have it all figured out or keep pushing through. Grounded in mind-body approaches and trauma-aware care, we move at a pace that honours your nervous system, supporting you whether you’re seeking relief from overwhelm, making sense of long-standing patterns, or learning how to feel more steady in your day-to-day life. Each session blends evidence-based approaches with a warm, attuned presence, helping you build awareness, reconnect with yourself, and create meaningful, lasting shifts that feel sustainable in your real life.

We take the time to understand what’s been shaping your experience and move at a pace that feels steady, supportive, and safe.

We support young adults, new parents, first responders, and emerging entrepreneurs navigating:

Children’s Therapy

At Nurturing Roots, we create a safe, supportive space for children to explore and express their feelings while building skills for resilience, confidence, and healthy relationships. We work closely with both children and their families, supporting more open communication, emotional understanding, and a stronger foundation for long-term well-being.

From their very first cries and expressions, children are learning how to communicate their needs and make sense of the world around them. As they grow, those emotions can show up in big ways, meltdowns, withdrawal, frustration, or difficulty expressing what they need. By the time they reach school age, they’re navigating friendships, expectations, and new environments, all while still learning how to understand and regulate their emotions. Emotional development shapes how children see themselves, relate to others, and respond to challenges, and when they’re supported early, it can make all the difference.

Walk & Talk Therapy

Walk and Talk Therapy offers the support of traditional talk therapy, with the added ease of movement and the calming presence of nature. Walking side by side can feel more natural than sitting face-to-face, allowing conversations to unfold with less pressure. The gentle rhythm of movement helps your body soften, release tension, and settle, while fresh air and the quiet of the outdoors create space to think more clearly, process more deeply, and simply breathe.

This approach can be especially supportive if sitting in a room feels heavy or if you notice that being outside helps you feel more grounded and at ease. Together, we can move through experiences like anxiety, low mood, stress, life transitions, or self-esteem challenges, while your nervous system is supported by the environment around you.

And if the weather shifts, your energy feels low, or life feels full on a given day, that’s okay. Walk and Talk Therapy is simply one option we can lean into when it feels supportive, giving you the flexibility to choose what your body needs in the moment.

EMDR Intensives

For those who feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, overwhelm, shutdown, or emotional looping and are looking for a deeper, more focused approach than weekly therapy can offer.

Sometimes healing needs more space than a traditional therapy session can provide.

Many people come to therapy with a great deal of insight. They understand their patterns, recognize where their struggles come from, and have spent years trying to work through them. Yet they still find themselves feeling stuck in the same cycles of anxiety, overwhelm, emotional shutdown, self-doubt, or relationship challenges.

EMDR & Nervous System Intensives are designed to create the time and space needed for deeper healing. Rather than stopping just as your nervous system begins to settle into the work, these extended sessions allow us to stay with the process longer, helping uncover and address the root causes of what may be keeping you stuck.

Every intensive begins with a dedicated preparation session where we explore your goals, current challenges, past experiences, present-day triggers, and the patterns that continue to show up in your life. Together, we develop a personalized roadmap and build grounding and nervous system resources to help create a foundation of safety before deeper processing begins.

Once preparation is complete, we move into a focused 3 to 4 hour intensive session. Using EMDR, nervous system education, and body-based awareness, we work at a pace that honours your nervous system while supporting meaningful healing and integration. These sessions can be especially helpful for individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma, chronic overwhelm, emotional shutdown, or recurring patterns that continue to surface despite ongoing therapy.

Many clients describe feeling lighter, clearer, more connected to themselves, and better able to move forward after intensive work. While some benefit from a single intensive, others choose a series of sessions to support deeper healing and lasting change.

If you’re curious whether an EMDR Intensive may be a good fit for where you are right now, you’re welcome to book a free discovery call so we can explore that together.

Who are the clients we support?

At Nurturing Roots, we welcome individuals across all stages of life who are seeking a compassionate, whole-person approach to wellness. Whether you’re taking your very first step toward support or continuing a journey you’ve already started, we meet you exactly where you are, with warmth, curiosity, and care.

What do EMDR Intensives look like and how long are they?

EMDR & Nervous System Intensives are designed to provide more time and space for deeper healing than a traditional therapy session.

The process begins with a dedicated 90–120 minute preparation session, where we explore your goals, current challenges, relevant life experiences, and the patterns that continue to show up in your life. Together, we’ll identify the areas we want to focus on, develop a personalized treatment plan, and build grounding and nervous system resources to support the work ahead.

Once preparation is complete, we move into a 3 to 4 hour intensive session. These longer sessions allow your nervous system the opportunity to settle, process, and integrate experiences without feeling rushed. Using EMDR, nervous system education, and body-based awareness, we work through past experiences, present-day triggers, and the beliefs or patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Throughout the process, we move at a pace that honours your nervous system. There is time for grounding, processing, reflection, and integration, helping create meaningful shifts while maintaining a sense of safety and support.

Some individuals experience significant benefits from a single intensive, while others choose a series of sessions to address deeper or more longstanding patterns. Together, we can determine what approach feels most supportive for your unique needs and goals.

Who Are Intensives Best Suited For?

Intensives may be a good fit for individuals who feel stuck despite having insight into their struggles, are experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, emotional shutdown, or recurring patterns, or who are looking to move beyond symptom management and address the deeper roots of their challenges. They can be especially helpful for those who feel that traditional weekly sessions don’t provide enough time to fully settle into and process the work.

How Much Do EMDR Intensives Cost?

Healing often benefits from having the time and space needed to fully settle into the work. Before an intensive, we begin with a dedicated 90–120 minute preparation session where we’ll explore your goals, identify areas of focus, develop a personalized treatment plan, and build resources to support your nervous system throughout the process.

The investment for a 3-hour EMDR & Nervous System Intensive is $600, and a 4-hour intensive is $800. The preparation session is billed at the standard therapy rate.

Some individuals find a single intensive provides meaningful insight and relief, while others choose a series of sessions to support deeper healing and integration. Together, we’ll determine what feels most supportive for your unique journey.

Is therapy covered by my benefits?

Our team includes Registered Social Workers and CRPO-Registered Psychotherapists, and sessions with them are typically covered by most extended healthcare benefit plans.

We do not bill insurance companies directly, but we provide detailed receipts by email upon payment, so you can easily submit them to your provider for reimbursement.

If you’re unsure about your coverage, we encourage you to check with your insurance company before your first session, we’re happy to guide you through what to ask so you feel confident moving forward.
