Root to Rise Retreat: A Day of Reset, Renewal & Connection

On August 16th, we gathered at Vicki Tree Wellness in Coldwater, Ontario for our Root to Rise Retreat — a wellness retreat created with intention to nurture the nervous system, connect with community, and offer a true nervous system reset.

The retreat was held in a beautiful, peaceful setting surrounded by nature. The land itself invited us to slow down, to step out of the busyness of everyday life and into a space where we could listen inward. It was a day of grounding practices, nourishing food, laughter, silence, and connection — a day that reminded us of the power of simply pausing.

Arriving & Grounding

We began by gathering in circle. There’s something so special about sitting together in that way — shoulder to shoulder, face to face — with nothing to do except arrive. We opened with breath, noticing how even a few moments of stillness can shift the energy we carry. Each person was invited to set an intention, a quiet reminder of what they wanted to hold close for the day.

From there, Pamela guided us into gentle movement. These somatic practices weren’t about performance or doing things “right.” They were an invitation to notice how the body holds tension, and to allow a little softening where it was possible. Movements were slow and accessible, creating space for release without pressure. There was a palpable shift as shoulders lowered, breathing deepened, and people began to feel a sense of presence in their bodies again.

Starting with movement helped us all to arrive more fully. It reminded us that healing often begins not with words, but with the simple act of reconnecting to our body’s wisdom.

Nervous System Care & Midday Pause

With that grounding in place, we moved into a focus on the nervous system. We explored how stress shows up in the body — the racing thoughts, the tight chest, the feeling of being “on” all the time — and practiced small, simple tools to support regulation. Breathwork, grounding, and noticing our own patterns created moments of calm. It’s always powerful to witness how quickly people shift when they give themselves permission to pause. Faces softened, postures shifted, and you could feel the plank exhale together.

After this work, we shared a nourishing lunch. It wasn’t just about food — though the meal was wholesome and grounding — it was about connection. The slower rhythm of the day meant there was space for laughter, conversation, and moments of quiet reflection. Some people stepped outside into the fresh air, letting the trees and breeze offer their own kind of medicine.

Deep Rest & Integration

The afternoon was reserved for deep rest and integration, and this part of the day felt truly magical. George and Pamela combined osteopathy, cranial relaxation, and Reiki into an experience that invited the body to release at a deep level. The physical and the energetic blended seamlessly — gentle hands supporting structure and alignment, while Reiki offered space for the nervous system to quiet and settle.

It was as though the whole room sighed together. Many participants described afterward how safe, supported, and rested they felt — as though something heavy had been lifted from them. This integration gave everyone the chance not only to learn about rest, but to actually embody it.

Following this, we stepped into the forest for a mindful walk. Together, we embraced silence — listening to the crunch of leaves, the songs of birds, and the rhythm of our own breath. The forest held us in a way only nature can, reminding us that stillness is not empty; it’s full of presence. Each step was an act of grounding, each inhale an opportunity to notice we were part of something larger.

We returned to circle once more to close. This time, the energy felt different. We weren’t arriving from busyness — we were leaving with calm, with clarity, with a sense of connection. We reflected on what we were taking away: for some, it was practical tools; for others, it was simply the memory of how it feels to breathe fully. Each person carried something forward, rooted in their own way.

Reflections from the Day

As the facilitators — myself, George, and Pamela — we left with hearts so full. Full of gratitude for the people who showed up for themselves, for the openness and trust they brought into the space, and for the way they embraced everything the day had to offer.

There’s a beauty in witnessing transformation that doesn’t always need to be named out loud. You see it in softer faces, in slower movements, in a deeper kind of presence. That was the gift of this retreat: to be reminded that healing doesn’t have to be rushed or forced. When we create space for the body and nervous system to settle, something profound always happens.

This is why we hold Root to Rise. It’s not about doing more — it’s about remembering what it feels like to pause, to breathe, and to rise again from a place of grounding.
