What I’ve come to realize (both personally and in the work I do) is that sometimes our bodies need something much simpler.

A cool splash of water on your hands.
Feeling your feet firmly on the ground.
Wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket.

These little moments aren’t about making your stress disappear. They’re gentle ways of helping your nervous system come back to the present when it feels like it’s racing ahead.

When we’re overwhelmed, our minds often tell us to keep pushing or figure everything out right now. But our bodies sometimes need something different.

A moment to pause.
A moment to notice.
A moment to feel supported.

Healing isn’t always found in the big, life-changing moments. Sometimes it begins with the smallest acts of care we offer ourselves.

What’s one small thing that helps your body feel just a little more grounded?

Maybe you’ve been feeling more overwhelmed than usual. Maybe your body feels tense, tired, or like it’s carrying more than it used to. Maybe you’ve noticed anxiety, burnout, or a sense of disconnection that you can’t quite put into words.

And the truth is, there often isn’t just one reason.

Our thoughts, emotions, nervous system, experiences, and bodies are all connected. What we move through in life can shape how we feel, how we respond, and how we experience ourselves.

This is why we believe healing deserves a whole-person approach. At Nurturing Roots, we bring together different forms of support to meet you where you are.

Through psychotherapy and EMDR, we explore the experiences, emotions, and patterns that may be influencing how you feel today.

Through osteopathy, somatic work, and Reiki, we support the body and the ways stress and tension can show up physically.

Through nervous system coaching, we offer practical tools to help you feel more grounded, connected, and supported in everyday life.

You don’t have to know exactly what you need before reaching out. Sometimes the first step is simply noticing that something feels different. And from there, we can explore it together.

For so long, I ignored the signs.

The tension.
The exhaustion.
The overwhelm.
The moments when I knew I needed rest but kept pushing anyway.

Maybe you’ve noticed some of those things in yourself too.

Not because there’s something wrong with you, but because your nervous system has been doing its best to get your attention.

The beautiful thing is that you don’t have to figure everything out today. You don’t need to have a plan or know exactly what comes next.

Sometimes healing begins with something much simpler.

Noticing.
Listening.
Responding with a little more compassion than criticism.

Maybe that’s enough for today 🤍

When I’m stressed, my instinct is usually to keep going. I’ll sit at my desk a little longer, try to think my way through it, or tell myself I’ll slow down later.

But our bodies don’t always work that way.
When we experience stress, our nervous system prepares us for action. That’s why you might notice restless legs, tight shoulders, pacing, jaw tension, or feeling like you can’t quite settle.

Sometimes what your body needs isn’t to think harder.

It needs to move.
A short walk.
A gentle stretch.
Rolling your shoulders.
Shaking out your hands.

These small moments of movement can help your body begin to move through and complete its stress response instead of holding onto that tension.

It’s not about getting a workout in or “earning” rest. It’s about listening to what your body has been asking for all along.

Sometimes the smallest movement can be the first step toward helping your nervous system feel safe enough to settle.

We’re so excited for you to get to know one of the incredible practitioners at Nurturing Roots.

Pamela offers Integrated Reiki & Somatic Sessions, bringing together gentle body-based support and Reiki to help you slow down, reconnect with yourself, and support your nervous system in a way that feels right for you.

In this reel, she shares more about her approach, what these sessions can look like, and why she’s so passionate about this work.

We hope you’ll take a moment to watch and get to know Pamela a little better. If you’ve been curious about integrated Reiki and somatic support, we’re always here to answer your questions and help you find the right fit. 🤍

I’ve always been someone who pushes through, keeps going, and tells myself, “I can handle this.” But lately, I’ve been leaning into something different.

I’ve been reminded that there’s something incredibly healing about simply being around people who feel safe. Not because they’re fixing anything or saying the perfect thing, but because of their presence.

Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to calm down on our own. We try to breathe through it, think differently, or push our way forward.

But sometimes, what our nervous system needs most isn’t another strategy.

Sometimes it needs another person.
Our nervous systems are wired for connection. When we’re with someone who feels calm, grounded, and safe, our bodies begin to respond to those cues of safety. It’s called co-regulation.

Have you ever walked away from spending time with someone and realized you felt lighter, even though nothing was “fixed”?

That’s your nervous system responding.

This has been such a gentle reminder for me lately: I don’t always have to carry everything on my own. Sometimes, simply being in the presence of safe people is enough for my body to exhale.

Maybe it’s a reminder you needed today, too 🤍

One of the simplest ways to support your nervous system is also something you’re already doing all day long...breathing.

Here’s why it matters.

When we’re under stress, our bodies move into a protective response designed to help us cope. But in modern life, we don’t always get the opportunity to fully come back down from that stress response.

A longer exhale can help signal to your nervous system that it can begin shifting out of high alert. It supports the calming side of your nervous system and helps your body move toward a more regulated state.

This is one small way we can help complete the stress response cycle. Giving our body a chance to recognize that the moment of threat has passed and that it is safe to soften.

Try this:

✨ Inhale for 4 counts
✨ Exhale for 6 counts

Repeat for a minute or two.

It won’t erase a difficult day, and it’s not meant to. Healing doesn’t happen through one perfect tool. It happens through small, consistent moments where we show our body that it is supported.

Those signals of safety add up.
One of the biggest things people discover in therapy is that understanding something doesn’t always make it disappear.

You can know where a reaction comes from. You can understand your patterns. You can have the insight and awareness...and still feel stuck.

That’s because our experiences aren’t stored only in our thoughts. Our nervous system is constantly communicating with the rest of our body; influencing our breathing, heart rate, muscles, digestion, and how we respond when we feel stressed or overwhelmed.

This is why you might logically know you’re safe, but your body still feels like it needs to stay alert.

It doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It means your whole system is involved in healing.

This is why approaches that support both the mind and the body can be so powerful. Psychotherapy helps us understand and process our experiences, while body-based approaches can help support the nervous system responses that words alone may not always reach.

Healing is not about choosing between the mind or the body. It’s about recognizing that both are part of your story.

Have you ever had one of those days where you can’t seem to think clearly? You’ve had your coffee, you got enough sleep, but you’re still struggling to focus. Maybe you feel disconnected, unmotivated, or like you’re just going through the motions.

Most people assume that’s laziness or burnout. But sometimes, it’s actually your nervous system.

When we think about stress, we often picture anxiety - racing thoughts, feeling overwhelmed, or constantly on edge. But a nervous system that’s been carrying stress for a long time can also respond by slowing things down. It’s one of the ways our bodies try to conserve energy and protect us when life has felt like too much for too long.

That doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. It doesn’t mean you’re failing or that you’ll feel this way forever. It may simply mean your nervous system has been working really hard.

The good news is that our nervous systems can change. Our nervous systems are adaptable and they can learn that they don’t have to stay in survival mode.

#Burnout #NervousSystem #Stress #SurvivalMode #SlowingDown
Most people don’t fit neatly into just one of these.

You might feel wired and reactive on a Tuesday, then completely shut down and exhausted by Friday. Both can be signs of the same nervous system responding differently depending on what life has been asking of it.

None of these experiences mean there’s something wrong with you. Sometimes they’re signs that your nervous system adapted to protect you through ongoing stress, overwhelm, or difficult experiences.

The challenge is that those same protective patterns can continue long after they’re no longer needed. If you recognized yourself in more than one of these, you’re not alone. Many people move between these different patterns without realizing their nervous system may be asking for support.

Healing isn’t about becoming someone different. It’s about helping your nervous system recognize that it doesn’t have to stay in survival mode. With the right support, your body can begin to feel safer, more regulated, and more like home again.
